Word Alert: Daily Bible Verses review

Review Standarts
Our main goal is to provide full and useful app reviews. Our authors strictly follow the rules: minimum 15 hours of the real app usage experience or gameplay, test on main Android and iOS versions, test on phones and tablets.

Among the powers of The Good Book, we’d like to highlight the strength of some selected verses out of it. The universal wisdom of it is so versatile that you don’t even have to be a Christian to recognize it. And if you are, you’ll get much more inspiration and power in these verses.

Word Alert is one of those numerous apps providing you a verse a day. It may look today like a Christian version of fortune cookies, but, in fact, this tradition is much older. And if you can read deeper, the random quote will not look random but suggested by the higher power. This app even doesn’t require opening it manually each day to read these words.

Interface — 5/5

The interface is just unnoticeable, letting you concentrate on the content – that is, on verses. There is virtually nothing more. The developers added even no background that would help to create the atmosphere and to feel more awe before The Creator and the creation. In fact, it looks like a book page with a single verse on it.

There is also a badge app icon that won’t let you miss entirely the alert if you couldn’t read it in time for some reason.

Content and Features — 5/5

The authors made a good work on selecting the right quotes. Not all biblical verses are equally self-sufficient, especially those of The Old Testament. But the developers separated the grain from the chaff (if it doesn’t sound blasphemous applied to The Bible) and prepared a set of quotes that don’t require re-reading the context.

The thing about this app is its built-in reminder. You can set up the time when you need to feed your soul with a verse, and when it comes, the quote pops up on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

You can save the verses you response to the strongest as Favorites just by marking them with a star, to return to them later. It’s also easy to share this quote on Facebook, Twitter or other social media.

You can only set the timer for one pop-up a day. But if you need more, you can proceed to the next quote by a simple swipe or tapping the virtual button.

Usability — 5/5

There’s simply nothing to be misunderstood. All you can set up is the time when the verse pops up, and it works perfectly.

There is no Settings section at all. The only thing you can adjust is the font size. But it’s quite enough for this type of app.

Compatibility — 4/5

The app is only available for iOS, but there are separate versions for iPhone and iPad.

The tablet interface utilizes larger screen efficiently, and the quotes remain easily readable. The text appears in the center of the screen, and the share menu fits in the corner, comfortable and not messing with the text. On iPad, you can adjust the size with two buttons in the upper right corner.

Apple Watch is supported too. When the time comes, the watch displays the quote of the day, and it’s even easier when you’re away from your main device.

The required version of iOS is 8.0 or later, so it will run even on very old iDevices.

Conclusion

One of the best apps about Bible verses. It has no extended features (like various translations or editions), but it does this job of delivering the word to those in need.

Pros:

  • Good readability
  • Mindful selection of quotes
  • Apple Watch support.

Cons:

  • Available only in English.
