Granny is a horror-based quest game for both Android and iOS devices. You will have to find a way out of the hellhouse controlled by a crazy old granny. Available on devices with iOS 8.0 or later and Android 4.1 or up.

Plot – 5/5

You will wake up in a bed without having any idea of what happened. The room is strange and unknown to the main character. It seems that an insane old woman has locked you up in a creepy house. Later, she will get back for your soul with a bloodstained baseball bat. Your mission is to search for useful things around such as tools and equipment to survive in the decrepit house and find a way out. Granny has set many locks around, so you should be careful while searching for the escape. It’s possible to find the necessary items in the coffins, wardrobes, and other types of old furniture. The primary goal is to get to and unlock the front door.

The game actually has several antagonists, and another one is a pet spider of the old woman. You can also explore the remains of the granny’s last victims.

Visuals – 3/5

Granny has retro-style gameplay with zoomed-in camera angles. These small visual effects add a special atmosphere to this mobile game.

As a horror game for teens and adults, it may seem a bit funny rather than frightening. However, for the youngest players, the game might be inappropriate and even seem realistic. Overall, Granny is not too graphic for little children due to the poor development of 3D imaging which sometimes manages to look scary from time to time. Such elements of horror as blood splatters, acts of cannibalism, cryptic quotes, and sudden jumps may scare you, but they are not that professionally developed.

Replay Value – 4/5

The game is quite fun to go back to. It’s highly unlikely you will be able to figure out how to escape the house on your first try. Therefore, you will be drawn back in over and over as you try out new approaches to beating the game. The introduction of new antagonists is additional motivation, and you’ll find yourself launching the game whenever you have some spare time just to see if you can outwit your opponent.

Controls – 4/5

Overall, the controls are quite precise and get the job done efficiently. Here’s a detailed look at them.

  • Looking around

If you wish to switch the direction you’re looking in, swipe the screen.

  • Moving around

Use the white circle you see on the screen.

  • Crouching down

Tap the icon of your character in the top-left corner of the screen. Tap it once more if you wish to stand up.

  • Picking items

Just tap the hand when the target item is nearby.

  • Opening stuff

If you notice the hand appearing on the screen, tap it to open.

  • Getting rid of items

While holding something, you can notice the Drop option. Tap it to throw away the thing.

Granny might not be an appropriate game for little kids, but some teenagers and adults may find the plot compelling. However, the poor graphics can make the scary details look unintentionally funny. It’s recommended to play alone in the dark with the sound on to feel the atmosphere.

All in all, it is a great quest to spend your time on if you love solving scary puzzles on your mobile device.
